Bega Valley Eggs are pastured, free range eggs from the Bega Valley delivered right across Sydney, to Melbourne and to Brisbane. They’re rich and creamy and loaded with goodness! Pasture raised eggs are a true superfood product that is a delight to work with.
The lucky hens at Bega Valley Eggs are treated to sunshine and fresh air all day every day. They are moved around the 300-acre property in purpose-built mobile chicken caravans.
Any good chef worth his or her salt knows that quality ingredients are the secret to success. While many chefs choose free range eggs over caged, some understand the point of difference between free range and the gold standard of eggs … pasture raised. Colour, taste, texture, nutrition and performance are all superior and a great pasture raised egg can make the difference between a regular dish and a stand-out dish.
Why pastured, free range eggs?
Bega Valley Eggs takes great care of their laying hens. They have access to lush, grassy pastures where they can roam around in the sunshine, indulge in dust baths, eat vegetation and bugs and basically enjoy their day-to-day lives. Rotational management is used whereby the hens are given a different quarter acre every few days so their food is always fresh and plentiful and the pastures regenerate.
At night, the hens are housed in pristine, protected huts where they can roost on their perches and the manure drops through to fertilise the soil. The soil is rested to allow for pasture improvement year on year.
The benefits of pasture raised eggs over caged or free range
Not only do pasture raised eggs taste better and deliver higher nutritional goodness, they also look better. The deep orange colour of the rich yolks and the thick, firm texture of the whites gives the eggs a much more pleasing appearance which consumers appreciate.
Pasture raised eggs contain high amounts of Vitamins A, D, E, K2, B12, folate riboflavin, zinc, calcium, beta carotene and choline. They are also very rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.
